Frequently Asked Questions
Cut Flowers
-
Visits to the farm is by appointment only. Please contact us for more information.
-
Yes — our flowers are Irish-grown and seasonal, which means what’s in your bouquet or DIY bucket will change week to week. We work with what’s naturally flowering on the farm at that time, so every order is a true snapshot of the season (and no two are ever identical).
-
Our fresh cut flower bouquets are available seasonally, not year-round. In Ireland, the outdoor flower-growing season typically runs from late spring through early autumn, depending on the weather. During this time, we offer bouquets made with fresh, Irish-grown flowers from the farm.
Outside the growing season, we don’t force flowers or import blooms, as this goes against how we farm. Instead, we focus on our raw Irish honey and pure beeswax candles, which are available all year and make thoughtful, seasonal gifts when flowers aren’t in bloom.
-
Seasonal, in-season flowers are usually longer-lasting because they’re cut at their peak and haven’t travelled for days. To get the best vase life: recut stems, use a clean vase, change water regularly, and keep flowers out of direct heat/sun. You’ll often get several good days (and longer with good care), depending on the varieties in season.
-
As a rule of thumb, 2 working days’ notice is ideal. It gives us time to pick at the right stage, condition the stems properly in water, and create the best possible mix for arranging and vase life. We’ll always try to help with last-minute requests when we can.
Beeswax Candles
-
Our candles are made from 100% pure beeswax, produced by our own bees at Buzzing Meadows Farm and from beekeepers across the west of Ireland. We use no imported waxes, no synthetic waxes, no paraffin, and no added fragrances.
Beeswax naturally carries a soft honey scent and a warm golden colour, which can vary slightly from batch to batch depending on the season — a sign of its natural origin.
-
Beeswax candles are a natural, renewable alternative to paraffin or blended wax candles. They burn cleanly with a steady flame, have a long burn time, and don’t rely on synthetic fragrances. Many people choose beeswax for its traditional feel, its gentle natural scent, and because it’s a more sustainable candle choice when sourced responsibly.
-
Beeswax candles are easy to care for, but a little attention helps them burn beautifully. Always place candles on a heat-safe surface, keep the wick trimmed to around 5–7 mm, and avoid drafts. Allowing the candle to burn long enough for a full melt pool (where appropriate) will help prevent tunnelling and extend its life.
Honey
-
Yes. Our honey is raw and minimally processed, meaning it is gently extracted and strained, but not heated or blended. This helps retain the honey’s natural enzymes, flavour, aroma, and character, just as the bees made it.
-
Our honey is produced by our own bees at Buzzing Meadows Farm, foraging on wildflowers, hedgerows, trees, and meadows in the local landscape. The flavour and colour of the honey can change through the season, reflecting what’s in bloom at the time — a true taste of place.
-
Crystallisation is a natural and normal process in real honey and is a good sign of quality. It happens when natural sugars settle over time. If you prefer liquid honey, simply place the jar in warm (not boiling) water and stir gently until it returns to liquid form.
-
Our honey is suitable for most people, BUT it should not be given to children under one year of age.
